                                            About the Name

The name came from a street my father grew up on in Tennessee.  Since I was 4 years old, we had visited there at my grandmother's house every summer.  This is where I have a lot of my great childhood memories with my family....having barbeques every Saturday, catching fireflies, shooting fireworks on the 4th of July are just a few of them.  This name has a lot of meaning to me because of my childhood memories there, especially of my close cousin and my grandmother who is no longer with us, but is always in my heart.  I do not get the chance to visit down there as much anymore so I think about being there with my family a lot these days.

As for the start of Rowewood Rabbitry, it started with my first pet Lucy...an otter color holland lop.  She was so sweet,  I had decided to get a friend for her and wound up with my second pet Mindy which I got from a breeder I had found.  From there I talked with the breeder and decided to start a rabbitry myself.  At first, I was only going to start with Holland Lops.  However, I had also been looking into the Mini Rex breed which sounded interesting with their personality and velvet soft fur.  One of the rabbitries I had gone to picking up a couple of Hollands offered me a great deal on a nice Mini Rex doe, so of course I came home with her and found another to breed her with.  Since then, I have been breeding both Holland Lops and Mini Rexes and have expanded my numbers a little with both breeds.  I am loving them...they have great personalities.

                                                  About the Rabbitry

We are a member of ARBA and the HLRSC.  We breed great quality for show and pet (pedigrees are available).  All babies will be handled from birth to give them better temperments.  We try our best to make our bunnies sociable so they enjoy attention as loving pets or even being handled on the show circuit.  We run a CLOSED rabbitry and do not allow visits.  Visits can be very stressful for the bunnies and we do our best to make sure our rabbits stay very healthy.  They are indoors, sheltered away from harmful elements outside.  Our rabbity is small so we can focus on each individual rabbit to provide the care and attention they each need.

Before getting a bunny from us, we ask that you please do your research on their proper care.  If you plan on keeping the bunny outside, there are precautions that need to be taken so your bunny does not get overheated in the summer and result in death.  We breed Holland Lops, Mini Rex, and Netherland Dwarfs.

                                                                                                                       About the Breeds

About the Holland Lop
Holland lops are known for their loppy ears which makes them one of the cutest breeds.  They nomrally have great temperments as they are very gentle, sweet, and affectionate.  They make great pets and are very popular for shows as well.  Normally their weight is between 2 and 4 pounds (smallest of the lop breeds).  Their fur is called "rollback" which means "fuzzy.  They are a very compact size rabbit and considered a "dwarf" breed.  They are the smallest of the lop breeds.

About the Mini Rex
Mini Rex rabbits are very gentle and can be very friendly and sociable.  They are a very popular breed as pets and for show.  They are very curious and love to explore the house if kept indoors.  Generally they weight 3-4 1/4 pounds.  They are known as the "velveteen" rabbit because their fur feels like velvet.  Their nails do grow faster than other rabbits so they do need to be trimmed more often.
